Thanks for visiting. I’ve created this site to share my writing and photos. I’ve shared some of my efforts with friends and colleagues over the years. Now I’d like to show my work to the world.
Ever since I was a kid, I’ve been in love with the written word. I read anything and everything I could get my hands on, including the cereal box while I was eating breakfast.
When I was about 8 or 9, and inspired by the Hardy Boys mysteries I was devouring at the time, I wrote my first short story. It was a murder mystery, and I even enlisted my mother to help me write it. I can still remember parts of it–I think I killed the protagonist off (my first surprise ending).
I did a lot of writing in high school and college, and friends and teachers told me I was a good writer. I’ve been able to make a living as a professional writer, so I’ve followed the advice to “do what you love and the money will follow.”
I’ve always loved fiction–I’ve read hundreds of novels and short stories, and each in its way has informed my writing and perspective. I’ve written lots of short stories over the years, and have even tried my hand at a couple of novels. I haven’t been published yet, which is one of the reasons I’ve created this blog. I keep writing because I enjoy it and it’s a great creative outlet.
I have also written a lot of non-fiction pieces, especially in the area of memoir. Those pieces will be added to this blog down the road.
As for the photos: as anyone who knows me can tell you, I love to travel, and I love to take photos. I’ve posted a lot of my photos on Facebook, but I wanted to create a dedicated site where I could share the photos and the stories behind them. That part of the blog is evolving, and will take fuller shape down the road. I might even add some poetry, too.
This is, as they say, a work in progress. Comments are welcome, as are (gentle) critiques. Remember, writers have fragile egos. Thanks again for stopping by. Alex
